Detox Indoor Air with Plants

Certain plants can help reduce various pollutants in the air, like formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, and benzene. To reduce the concentration of air contamination in the house, place one plant for every 100-200 square feet.

Hidden Formaldehyde Sources:

Formaldehyde may be present in our homes in the following ways:

  • Synthetic Carpet
  • Foam insulation
  • Particle board
  • Plywood
  • Some cleaners
  • Some fabrics

To help reduce the presence of formaldehyde in the house, consider adding some of the following amazing house plants:

  • Azalea
  • Bamboo palmspider plant
  • Chrysanthemum
  • Dieffenbachia
  • Mother-in-law’s tongue
  • Philodendron
  • Poinsettia
  • Spider Plant

Trichloroethylene

Trichloroethylene may be present in the following:

  • Paints
  • Varnishes
  • Adhesives
  • Dry-cleaning chemicals

    Great information! I have small plants throughout my home and am now interested in adding a few more additions. I also discovered through another source that Areca Palms are great for air cleaning and are safe for pets!
