Breastmilk Replacement Formula

Formula with Goat Milk Base

Recipe:

1 quart goat’s milk (organic if possible)Cassatt_Mary_Baby_John_Being_Nursed_1910

200 micrograms folic acid (drops)

¼ tsp flax seed oil

1 drop vitamin E (mycellized)

1 drop beta carotene

1 tsp bifidus factor (lacto-bifidus)

1-2 milligrams B complex (if you can’t get drops, dissolve a 50 mg tablet in a 1 ounce dropper bottle and use 1 dropperful each day in formula)

½ tsp maple syrup (optional)

Details:

Most of the ingredients for this breastmilk replacement formula may be purchased in a good health food store.  Mix all above ingredients together in a clean mason jar.  The formula can be made in larger volumes and stored up to 3 days in the refrigerator.  Warm the formula as usual before feeding to your little darling.  Try to avoid plastic and instead use glass baby bottles.

I have seen some home-made formulas that add up to 1 cup carrot juice and 1/4 tsp barley greens.  I think these would make more sense for an older child.  Best to keep things simple for the young babes.

Although goat milk is rich in fat, it lacks folic acid and is low in vitamin B12, both of which are essential to the growth and development of the infant. Inclusion of folic acid or nutritional yeast (to provide folic acid) is essential.  Vitamin B complex has also been added to the recipe.  Another option to compensate for low levels of vitamin B12, would be to add 2 teaspoons of finely grated organic raw chicken liver to the batch of formula.  Also be sure to begin egg-yolk feeding at four months.

It’s a good method for busy mother. I wonder when can the babies start to drink this formula? is it we must use goat milk & flex seed? any other replacement?

  2. Lana Farson says:

Of course breast milk is totally best, if the mother is able to nurse and has enough milk. If not, this is the best recipe I know of. Some of my clients are able to produce some milk, but not enough for the baby to gain sufficient weight. This recipe is a good supplement in these cases, better than store bought formulas.

This is very interesting! It reminds me of my grandmother; she was born with a multitude of health problems and food sensitivities. She grew up on a farm so when they discovered she couldn’t digest her mother’s milk, they put her on a goat’s milk formula. Neato!

Suzie, so did your great-grandparents add other things into the goat’s milk formula? I wanna gain more info, in case I need to use goat milk formula for my babies in future. Thanks!! : )

To this day, my father blames my mother every time I get the slightest ailment. I could not keep her breast milk down and did not tolerate soy either. The stories of incessant projectile vomiting are a source of laughter for my aunts now, but I’m sure it was not a pretty picture back then. My mother resorted to goat’s milk. I will have to ask her the source, but I am sure it was out of a can or something similar. I am definitely keeping this recipe in mind for any friends who encounter similar difficulties. Thank you!

This is what I did with my daughter. She thrived pretty well on the goats milk formula that I made.

This sounds like a great option for mother’s and babies. Is this safe for premies who aren’t able to nurse quite yet?

Why is goat’s milk used instead of other kinds of milk? In Kyrgyzstan Horses milk was a very popular option. Do you know the laws around human consumption of horses milk in the US?

My younger sister just recently had my precious niece in December. In addition to breast milk, she whips up something similar. Her breast milk replacement consists of hemp seeds, dates, irish moss and a few other ingredients. My niece is so beautiful, alert and already holding her head up at just a few months old. I think my sister’s healthy diet along with this replacement is doing wonders!
