This chart is helpful in thinking about balancing your meals and food choices. Today for lunch I happen to have packed beets (Heart – though they are yellow beets so maybe they are better for the spleen), pork tenderloin (kidney) and yams (spleen) with a slaw with red cabbage, carrots, kale and mustard greens (liver and spleen.) Almost every organ was represented — I just have to make sure lungs are covered with dinner!

This is a nice reference. So many great balanced meals materializing in my mind as I look at this list!

I like this chart. It has some new foods that I haven’t seen in other charts I’ve looked at for this. I am noticing that the raw food issue has been the most challenging for me to explain with some people in my family. It seems incomprehensible that anything raw can create weakness.

  4. Radha says:

What surprised me is that the kidneys specifically don’t like frozen things…what’s that about?

  5. Mia says:

It’s interesting that the colors of the foods correspond to the colors of the organs. Like helps like?

My eye sight is really getting better since I’ve been eating orange color vegetables such as carrots , orange and yellow peppers . Orange color vegetables are amazing too .

I love to cook/experiment in the kitchen. Now I have been trying to integrate the herbs we are learning into my recipes. Ever since we covered Hei zhi ma in the Tonify Yin category, I have taken a small handful daily to keep the gray hair at bay. Well, I devised a yummy recipe for the Kidneys:
I used the regular egg yolk wash and battered some fish with a mixture of 1 cup roasted black sesame, 1 cup almond flour and a dash of salt and pepper. Fried in coconut oil and turned out delish’!

  11. Liz Spurlock says:

I should post this in my kitchen!

  12. Robi Robinson says:

Planting and then, growing, the Nui Bang Zi (Burdock seeds) that Lana brought in from her garden has been a real treat. My plants have been growing so much with the infusion they’ve received from the recent (YAY) rains.

My intention is to use some of the roots I harvest in stir fry and tea. I’ll be increasing the nutritional content of food for my family while moistening our intestines and supporting our Lungs.

  15. Roxanna Hope says:

In order to grow Burdock seeds do you need a big planter? How tall do the plants get?

Would an excess wind food be something dry or crunchy? I am trying to understand which foods the lungs wouldn’t like…
